The body of deacons view themselves as co-laborers with the Pastor and church staff in the ministry of the Church. Our deacons recognize; however, the unique spiritual authority of the Pastor and respect God's call to lead that He has placed in the care of the Pastor. The deacons meet regularly with the Pastor to pray and encourage each other in their respective service. The deacon body recognizes and embraces its vital responsibility to bridge the gap between the church family and leadership in an effort to communicate vision, purpose and faithfulness.
The deacon body provides leadership to the church family by promoting the vision and purpose of the church. The deacons strive faithfully to promote unity of purpose while celebrating and encouraging the diversity of spiritual gifts within the body. Trinity deacons are expected and committed to provide positive, pro-active leadership, by example, that is consistent with our purpose to "love, reach, and grow fully devoted followers of Christ for God's glory."
Deacons recognize their calling and election to:
-
Serve as stewards of the church's health
-
Be thermostats and not thermometers (a thermostat helps control the environment whereas a thermometer merely reacts and registers the temperature).
-
Be positive encouragers
-
Be helpers in preventing and limiting conflict
-
Serve as purveyors of Hope in claiming and creating all of God's promises to those who are a part of His body.
Deacon Term of Service
The term of office for a deacon is three (3) years, two months (38 months), except when an election is to fill an un-expired term. The 38-month permits a smooth transition of election of deacon officers and in transferring deacon ministry duties from those going off the deacon body to those newly elected to the deacon body.
Method of Election
During a four(4) week time period beginning on the second Sunday in August and extending through the second Sunday in September, each member of the church body will be permitted to nominate a number of qualified men equal to the number of vacancies created by those rotating off the deacon body. The mail-out nomination form will be the official ballot. In the event the ballot is not received in the mail prior to the second Sunday in September, a church member may obtain a ballot from the Election Committee (those deacons rotating off the active body the following year) at a designated place prior to Sunday School and prior to morning worship services that day. No ballots will be distributed during the worship service.
The ballots shall be counted by the Election Committee and kept in confidence. The entire deacon body presently serving, beginning with the name receiving the highest number of votes will review all nominations that are received. The deacon body, after considering the qualifications of the nominees, will submit an unspecified number of nominations to the Interviewing Committee for further consideration as to their qualifications to serve. This committee will consist of the Pastor and the deacons who will be rotating off of the active body the following year.
Qualifications for the Office of Deacon:
1 Timothy 3: 8-13 "Deacons likewise must be serious not double-tongued they must hold the mystery of faith with a clear conscience. And let them also be tested first; then if they prove themselves blameless let them serve as deacons. Let deacons be the husband to one wife, and let them manage their children and their households well; for those who serve well as deacons gain a good standard for themselves and also great confidence in the faith which is in Christ Jesus."
Acts 6:1-3 "Pick out among you seven men of good repute, full of wisdom, who we may appoint to this duty."
